The Great Ordeal
A downloadable slog for Windows

Soulslike Musou ARPG based on the dark high fantasy novels of R. Scott Bakker.
Play as an Ordealman or a Gnostic Witch in the Holy Host of the Aspect-Emperor, and set out to conquer Dread Golgotterath. Beware the Horde, and beware the hungers and madness of the path to Salvation; nothing is as it seems.
Inspired by the great PS2 games like Berserk Hen Seima No Shō, Dynasty Warriors 2-3, and the Lord of the Rings film adaptation games with a hint of 90s story-focused RPGs like Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights.

- WASD to move
- L Mouse to light attack
- R Mouse to block/secondary
- Center Mouse to Hide/Show Cursor
- L Ctrl to heavy attack
- TAB to target lock-on
- Q to roll
- Space to jump
- Space to skip dialogue
- Number keys for skills
- I for inventory
- C for character
- Esc for menu
KNOWN ISSUES:
- If the Bow doesn't fire and plays a punch animation instead, try unequipping and re-equipping it.
- Charged attacks sometimes (usually) don't fire when locked-on. They should work when locked=off.
- NPC AI is going to require a complete overhaul. They will often run in place, attack thin air, etc.
- Switching from a two-handed weapon to a one=handed weapon causes animator issues. If this happens, unequip and re-equip the weapon.
- Player models T-posing in the load screen.
- Clothing occluders and cloth meshes need a complete overhaul, so please try to ignore all the clipping meshes on the player model. (not a huge priority at this early stage)
- Player can sometimes clip through elevated terrain.
- Second "level" (underground well) is COMPLETELY UNFINISHED.
- All menus (sound sliders etc.) are PLACEHOLDERS and don't necessarily work yet.

Since you mentioned your game(s) on that thread, I will be keeping on eye on this. Hope you revisit the Rome game you were making, even if it becomes a new game entirely. Good luck, much sovl.
thank you so much friend. perhaps i'll come back to the roman game after i'm done with the great ordeal (no promises, since that one did really burn me out). a lot of the content from the roman game has been carried over into the great ordeal, which shares its iron age setting, though including cultural influences beyond rome (like fantasy-gaul, babylon, scythia, germania, etc).
in any case, thank you for your interest and support. i very much hope to deliver a game you'll enjoy.
